Compost and Christmas Cards

What do we do in November, when the season has passed and the cover crop is sprouting and there is nothing better to do? Drive up and down streets stealing people's leaf bags! LOL. Yep, we do this quite often in the dark and it is actually quite fun. Not as fun is then slicing them open and dumping them on our larger-than-life compost pile.

What else do I do? FILL BUBBLES LIKE 2 HOURS A DAY!! Blech. With the ammount of seed requests I've been filling on a daily basis, I came to the decision yesterday that I am not doing Christmas cards this year. I am too poor from already spending $40+ on postage that the people are short on, plus my hand is permanently cramped from writing, plus just the concept of mailing even more stuff is making me crazy. Don't be offended if I don't send you a card, just be understanding and I'll be back in the game next year for sure!

I saw that you grew the largest pumpkin in the world. Great Job! It great to see that a woman took the prize. My husband and I attempted growing pumpkins for our youngest grandson's Halloween and they were nothing like your's. We hope to grow more next year for the little children in the family and neighborhood. If I send a self addressed envelope can we get some seeds to plant next year. It would be a thrill for the little ones next Halloween. Where should I send the envelope?
Thank you,
Grammy

Good question! 95 % of giant pumpkin growers will never make even 1 cent on their seeds out of respect to the man who originated the Atlantic Giant, Howard Dill. It was through his secret breeding project back in the 1970's that we even have giant pumpkins like we do today. He had a patent on the seeds so that he was the ONLY one in the world allowed to sell that strain until 2004 when the patent expired. So during those years, "free trade" exisited among growers, and continues today even after the patent expired. I have donated a lot of my seeds to growing organizations (ovgpg.com for an example) and they will sell and auction seeds for fundraising purposes. They give away a LOT LOT LOT of prize $$ at weighoffs and need a way to get the funds somehow!!
