21 Months

Yes I still celebrate the 18th of every month! :)

I'm very sad that in a few short months I'll be back to work and not squeezing this kid all day everyday.  I've always cherished every single moment but am doing it even more so now.  There is nothing better than just leisurely waking up each morning with him by my side and snuggling in bed for as long as we both want.

At 21 months, he's recently learned "up" and "uh-oh".   I try not to read blogs or babycenter and get worried about his speech; because honestly I'm NOT worried until I begin comparing.

I still won't let him go with no diaper all day but he's to the point where I think he could.  He even pooped in a bucket [twice] last week when we were over at the barn and he had to go.   He will pee standing up outside but I have learned I must do the aiming for him or it will land on his pants. LOL.

His gak gak obsession is still in full force despite my efforts to expand his horizons.  That's ok I suppose.

He HAD been healthy as a horse the last few months until green goop started leaking from his eyes; so that blessed us with a trip to the doctor [ie parental torture chamber].  The kid screams from the minute he enters the exam room and never lets up.  Hopefully we won't have to go there again until his 2 year well check.   All the screaming wore him out though; he is still asleep right now [10:45 AM] and he went to bed at 9 PM last night!!

Happy 21 months, Blaine, you deserve a HUG ATTACK!!

Rural Primative Art: Farmchick's Photo Friday

Plowing is a primitive art, a country square dance in which the farmer swings his earthly partner. There is pleasure in being at the beginning of the chain, where it all starts – all the politics, all the religion, all the industry. The plowman is at the head of the parade, the place from which all nations draw their power. The land before the tractor seems plain, but it is an awesome site, the humble temple of life and civilization.

Fresh-plowed ground has a subtle fragrance. The dead of millions of years are in the earth, all the beasts and flying things, all the grasses, trees and bushes, all the bits and pieces of former lives. But the soil is not so somber as to be a grave alone. There are also Tinkertoy parts for yet other lives, a gift from the land just keeps passing around.

Plowed ground smells of earthworms and empires.

Easily my favorite bit of writing, ever.  Appeared in Reader's Digest YEEEARS ago and when I googled it, I couldn't find it!  I have a book by the guy but not the book this poem appeared in.   I love love love reading this poem each spring and smelling the heavenly scent as it escapes the ground.

TAT: Bloopers

Blaine was mad his friend was trying to get into the doll crib with him.  Then she started fake crying to imitate him.  The photo captured the moment perfectly!

Been Farmin Long?

Saturday was super productive around here, ie gak gak overload for Blaine.  He had a blast helping Dadda do various tractor-related things.  Here they are planting alfalfa.  I have no idea what year that tractor is but it is totally old school.  My grandpa bought it last year to remind him of the old days; this model is the first tractor he bought when he got his farm in 1957.  I looooove how this picture shows 4 generations [kinda sorta, not really.   Nick isn't related to Buddy Chuck and my dad is at the golf course! LOL].    It is cute though how Blaine is looking at my grandpa like he's listening intently to the instructions!

Farmchick's Farm Photo Friday: EGG HUNT!

Farmchicks Farm Photo Friday

Blaine went on his first Easter Egg hunt this Thursday and had a blast.  He immediately knew what to do without me even telling him.  Well, we had the real deal as far as egg hunts today.  My neighbors domestic ducks have been randomly laying eggs and leaving them.  The ones in the grass have been smashed / eaten by critters but the ones just inside the water were fine.  Blaine and I fished them out and Dadda will use them as coon bait in his trap!  Fun day!  We got 13 duck eggs and 1 goose egg!

Toddle Along Tuesday: NAMES

Choosing a name was the #1 toughest part of pregnancy for us. No joke! I'm really envious of people who already have their boy and girl name picked out and they aren't even pregnant yet! LOL.  Being a teacher, I wanted a name that was unique and that I didn't have a negative memory attached to.  What you see in blue was my list of boy names I liked.  Nick hated every one of them.  So I got five baby name books from the library and luckily stumbled upon the ones in purple that I also liked.

Nick agreed on Blaine.  Phew. I actually fell in love with that name long long long ago.  Every hear of Blaine Wilson?

Famous male gymnast from Ohio.  He was hot.  He had big muscles.  And he had a unique name that was unforgetable to me.  I definitely did not name my child after him, but he was the ONLY Blaine I had ever heard of as of July 2010 when I chose that name.

Jump to October 2010.  If you watch Glee you'll recognize this face:

Thanks to Blaine on Glee, I doubt my Blaine will be the only Blaine at his school.  But I guess that's ok, way too many people think his name is BLAKE when I tell them BLAINE over and over.

So there you have it!   I don't enjoy picking names, waaay too stressful! :)  I read in a magazine today that 10% of parents don't like the name they chose for their child.  Well, I'm more in love with the name now than I was when we picked it.  I think it is the perfect name for my little bunny buddy.
